Waiting

waiting for the good thing
the train is late
the cabbie needs directions

cause’ I’ve been waiting

the good thing’s supposed to happen?
well when will it happen
it should have happened already

cause I deserve it
I’ve been waiting

well where is it?

now that you’re here,

what have you brought me?
nothing?
how

dare

you!
cause I’ve been waiting
and good things come
to those
who
wait

Empty

 loneliness
they say
eats you up like a cancer
it creeps in slowly
killing
everything inside
then finally it devours your
heart
leaving you numb and
hopeless
well it seems that this
loneliness
it has taken me
is there a cure
 i wonder
maybe ill just have to
fight it off and
see
but until then
all i have is
me

The Fade Away

Rain is pooling on the sidewalk
beneath the window I look out of
from the second story
watching people scurry
I think of you and sigh

I listen closely and hear the wind howl
across the cold and empty plains
how it moans in loneliness
and rages against things
that can't be changed

what is gone is gone
and the past will not come back
to visit any time soon
but maybe like a distant relative
seen at a wake
it will turn up to remind me of you

what happened?
to make you stop loving me
and the sparkles in your eyes
fade when they looked at me

I mourn for that lost love
in silence
because I can't cry for it
and I'm the only one who cares
to tend its' forsaken grave

I lay flowers over it
and talk to you
even though you're not there
like I did when you looked at me
with your red hair glowing
a smile and a sparkle

before the fade away began

I close my eyes and sigh again
concentrating
on the sound
of
pooling  rain

Self Portrait - by Chris D'Alessandro

The Tone Of Dawn

where the distance hangs, an umber haze
counting seconds, whispers are seeds
the precious moments as the dawn breaks
golden light with streaks of black
a rolling tone of the chime
the sound that lingers behind the curtain
rushing to meet the two
one end and the other
and forever looms just off the stage
ready to take over the show
when the story ends

Kate's Poem

We sat on a bench, with the wind in our hair
and watched the fish swim in the pond
rain and lightening,
on that night we were together again
warm in the each others arms
it felt like forever,
then you were gone
you tell me you love me
but its only a dream,
you're gone
a glint of golden red in the setting sun
I think you're there, but you're not
we're far apart,
miles, hurt feelings and time
Can you tell me: Where does love go,
when love dies?

Horizon Pond

What is just beyond your edge?
The distant line
separating what
is known from fear
sharp, vivid, full
of meaningful silence
moments caught in
the downpour
of pond water
on a humid day

Gravity

I can't move
Stifled
The edges are blurring
The center is coming apart at the seams
and there's something there
I know it
Something alive
Where nothing should be able to live
Feeding off of life
Pulling light into its mouth
