Sparta - Wiretap Scars - CD
I had heard a couple of this band's songs, but did not realize that it was
formed by the guitarist and bassist of At The Drive In, until I
read a Guitar World interview with Jim Ward and
Paul Hinojos. I was actually kinda pissed, because
I did not even realize At The Drive In had broken up until I read the article!
So anyway, have your heard Relationship Of Command? That was
the At The Drive In CD that kicked a lot of ass. If not, basically what
were talking about is strong, post hardcore (post-new school?) with complicated,
yet heavy guitar riffs, dramatic, emotional vocals, and very original sounding
song structures. Sparta are an extension of that, however a
bit more mellow than At The Drive In was. More melody, more slow /
sparkling clean guitar parts, coupled with soulful vocals. The songs are
not as heavy, but still have that hard hitting sound that touches the heart; the
same things that attracted me to
At The Drive In music. I bought this one and I was not disappointed; this
music cuts deep.
