TSUNAMI BOMB

Here’s an interview with the band Tsunami Bomb.  Their CD The Invasion From Within is very cool and you should check it out.  A mix of punk, modern rock and a bit of hardcore as well.  Anyway, here’s an interview with bass player Dominic and guitarist Mike.

WL:  Where do you want your music to take you (financially, creatively)?

DOMINIC:  As far as it can. Financially speaking, I wouldn’t mind seeing it
support us of course. Who wouldn’t? Creatively, I would like to try to be
as original of a band as possible. I just want us to continue to grow in
writing.

MIKE: I would love the band to be my only job. As far as creatively, I think
we’re doing something pretty new and I think we’re gonna keep it that way.

WL: Do you make a living by playing music, or do you have regular jobs when
you're not touring?

DOMINIC: We still have to work regular jobs right now. The band supports
itself just not us quite yet.

MIKE: Yeah, the band is the bands only job.

WL:  Are your families and friends supportive of your musical careers?

DOMINIC:  Yes. They are very supportive. My family especially. They have
always been.

MIKE:  Totally. I have the most supportive friends and family ever.

WL:  I used to be in a band where we would get into fist fights over band
problems.  Anybody in the band ever duke it out?  Came close to it?  If so,
why?

DOMINIC:  No. No fist fights, not even close to it.  We have had some tense
moments, but I would like to think we can settle things better then that.
It’s not worth it.  Tsunami Bomb is filled with some of my favorite people
in the world.  I wouldn’t want to get violent with any of them.  If someone
messes with them though…  then I might get violent.

MIKE:  I used to be in a band where we would stop practice and slug out our
differences and it sucked.  We don’t do that in this band and I’m lucky
‘cause I’m pretty sure the girls could take me.

WL:  Some dumb asses are suing Slayer because they blame Slayer's music for
the murder of their daughter.  Does violent music cause violence, or does
real life violence cause violent music?

DOMINIC:  Those people are just looking for someone to blame and get money
from. They view Slayer as successful so they are after them.  Music
reflects emotion, and though I believe that music can bring out emotions in
people…  I don’t believe it can cause murder.  People who are capable of
murder were capable of it before they heard any particular music.

MIKE:  Slayer are one my favorite bands and I’m the most non-violent person I
know.  People who blame music or movies for making bad decisions, whatever
they may be, were going to make those decisions regardless.

WL:  What's the most violent thing you've ever seen?  Did it have an impact on
your creative process?

DOMINIC:
I have seen plenty violent things. I have been a part of a lot of
violent situations.  I am not really obsessed or amazed by violence…there is
nothing glorified in violence.  I don’t think it had any impact on my
creative process at all. Violence is a last resort…  when no other means of
communication is available.

MIKE: Yeah, violence sucks.  Everyday life in general has always been an
influence on my creative process, not just one aspect of it.

WL:  What's your opinion of cops?  The military?  Anybody in the band ever been
in the military?  Anybody in the band been to college?

DOMINIC: I have no direct opinion of police.  I avoid them and wish them to
avoid me.  I went to college for a while.  It was good.  I have never been
in the Military.

MIKE: I stay away from cops and try not to get pulled over, just like the
next guy.  I went to college and I hated it.

WL:  To me, a sense of security and feelings of accomplishment, freedom /
individuality are very important in my life.   What feelings are important in
your lives?

DOMINIC:  I would like to think honor is important in my life.  Freedom and
individuality as well.  Imagination and drive are things I respect as well.

MIKE:  The feeling of being a good person is important to me.  And it’s
important for me to find that in other people as well.

WL:  I went to Rahway prison a couple times (on business), that is the
scariest place I've ever been.  Man, what a hellish shit hole!  What was the
scariest place you've ever been?

DOMINIC:  Deep in the heart of Mississippi. Something about the atmosphere.
Put me on edge.

MIKE:  I’m from Texas.  Enough said. (ha ha ha I went to Dallas on vacation! ed.)

WL:  Who is the one person in this world who sucks the most? (my vote is for
Rosie O'Donnel)

DOMINIC:  I think there are way to many people who suck, for me to pick just
one.

MIKE:  Yeah, I try to spread my feelings of dislike evenly among a lot of
people than concentrate on just one.

WL:  Any last words or comments, issues you would like to discuss?

DOMINIC:  Come see our shows. Blow out your energy there rather then in
random violence.

MIKE:  Violence sucks. Come to our shows.

WL:  How can people contact the band?

DOMINIC:  Check out our website.  We lurk in
the shadows there.
